12 Students Injured in Summerville Bus Crash
October 29, 2010 - More than a dozen children suffered personal injuries last week when a speeding driver crashed into a school bus. According to a report at WCBD-TV 2, the accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21 as the bus was on its way to drop off students at DuBose Middle School.
Police say the bus was driving westbound on Old Orangeburg Road in Summerville when a driver heading eastbound drove into oncoming traffic and crashed into the school bus. The driver had overcorrected after veering onto the shoulder, which caused her car to crash into the left side of the bus. The driver, who was behind the wheel of a Suzuki, has been identified as a 23-year-old woman from Goose Creek. Police say she will be charged with speeding for her role in the accident.
The bus was full at the time of the crash and 12 students suffered personal injuries that required treatment. All of the victims were treated and released from Summerville Medical Center. The bus driver, a 28-year-old woman from Summerville, also suffered minor injuries.
