Charleston County Sheriff’s Deputy Crashes on Highway 52
October 19, 2010 - A deputy with the Charleston County Sheriff's Department suffered serious personal injuries on Saturday when he or she was involved in a car accident. According to a report at the Charleston Post Courier, the deputy was involved in a single-vehicle accident while he was on duty. The accident occurred sometime on Saturday night in Berkeley County.
Police say the Charleston County deputy was driving his patrol car southbound on U.S. Highway 52 when he drove across the median and into oncoming traffic. The patrol car did not crash into any oncoming vehicles, but it did drive onto the shoulder before crashing into a utility pole.
Deputies with the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the accident and the victim was transported to MUSC Medical Center for treatment. The identity of the deputy has not yet been released and his condition is currently unknown. A spokesman with the Highway Patrol characterized his injuries as "serious."
No other vehicles were involved in this crash and no additional injuries were reported. More information will be added if and when it becomes available.
