Charleston Woman Hit by Semi-Truck
January 7, 2011 - A Charleston woman died on Monday after she was hit by a semi-truck while crossing the street. According to a report at WMBF News, the fatal accident occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning in downtown Columbia.
Investigators with the Columbia Police Department say the victim was crossing Carlisle Street when she was hit by the truck. It was not immediately clear if she was in a crosswalk or if she had the right of way at the time of the accident. The victim suffered massive injuries, including internal trauma, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
According to the Richland County Coroner, the victim has been identified as a 29-year-old woman from Charleston. As stated in her obituary, the victim is survived by 2 children and numerous brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
The driver of the semi-truck has not been identified, and police have not said if he or she will face any charges. The Columbia Police Department continues to investigate this fatal accident. More information about this tragic accident will be added if and when it becomes available.
