Driver Killed in Fiery Cottageville Truck Accident
January 27, 2011 - A truck driver who was involved in an accident last week has died from his injuries. According to a report at Live 5 News, the fatal truck accident occurred on Jan. 12 near Cottageville.
Deputies with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say the victim was driving a log truck southbound on Highway 61 when he lost control negotiating a curve in the road. The truck drove off the road and rolled several times, trapping the driver inside. Witnesses to the Cottageville truck accident were able to extricate the victim shortly before the truck caught on fire.
The victim was transported to MUSC in critical condition, where he died on Saturday, more than a week after the accident. Investigators have not released a cause of death.
The victim has been identified as a 77-year-old man. His funeral was held on Tuesday at the Brice W. Hernon and Sons funeral home. There were no other vehicles involved in this fatal truck accident, and no additional injuries were reported. Investigators have not said if weather was a factor in this fatal truck crash.
