Drunk Driver Crashes Car on Johns Island
November 12, 2010 - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office believes that alcohol played a role in a single-vehicle car accident at the end of the October. According to a report at the Charleston Post and Courier, Sheriff's deputies have just completed their report into the accident, which occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 27.
Deputies say the unidentified man was driving a pickup truck on Johns Island when a witness called 911 to report the driver's erratic behavior. When Charleston County deputies arrived at the scene, the pickup truck had crashed on the side of the road. The driver, who escaped serious injuries, was asleep in the truck. Deputies reported that empty beer cans were visible in the wreckage, and they said the driver failed a field sobriety test. Further investigation determined that the man was driving with a suspended license.
As a result of the accident, the man was arrested and held at a local detention center. He is facing multiple charges, including driving without a valid license and reckless driving. The Sheriff's Office has not released the driver's identity.
