North Charleston Woman Killed on I-26
October 21, 2010 - A local woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a car accident Tuesday on Interstate 26. According to a report at the Charleston Post and Courier, the single-vehicle accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol has yet to complete an investigation into this fatal crash, but they believe that the victim lost control of her vehicle right before the accident. The victim was driving a Ford Explorer SUV on Interstate 26 when she lost control near the exit for the Meeting Street Extension.
The SUV rolled over onto the shoulder before coming to a rest on the side of the road. The victim, who was wearing a seatbelt, has been identified as a 54-year-old woman from North Charleston. Police say she died at the scene of the accident and could not be revived by paramedics.
Traffic on Interstate 26 was snarled Tuesday afternoon as the Highway Patrol attempted to deal with rush-hour traffic while clearing the wreckage. The authorities have not yet determined what caused the victim to lose control of her SUV.
