One Killed in Orangeburg SUV Rollover Accident
December 13, 2010 - A young woman was killed on Friday in a rollover accident near Orangeburg. According to a report at the Charleston Post and Courier, the fatal car accident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening.
Deputies say the victim was driving an SUV on Interstate 26 when she lost control of her vehicle near mile marker 164, which is just outside Bowman. The SUV rolled repeatedly after the driver overcorrected. The victim was identified as a 19-year-old woman who attended Benedict College in Columbia. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not ejected. Unfortunately, her injuries were too severe and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating this fatal rollover crash to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the SUV. No other vehicles were involved and the victim was the only occupant in the vehicle. Her family has been notified and funeral arrangements are pending. According to her obituary, the victim was originally from North Charleston and leaves behind her parents as well as 2 sisters and a brother.
