One Person Killed in I-26 Truck Accident
January 6, 2011 - A serious truck accident on Interstate 26 near Charleston killed at least one person last week. According to a report at ABC News 4 Charleston, one person was killed and another victim suffered serious personal injuries in the crash, which happened in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Deputies with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say a semi-truck was driving eastbound on Interstate 26 when it overturned near Exit 172. Investigators have not said why the semi-truck overturned or if any other vehicles were involved. It was also not immediately clear if speed or inclement weather may have played a role in the truck crash.
The driver of the truck suffered personal injuries and is receiving treatment at Trident Medical Center, where his condition is unknown at this time. A passenger in the semi-truck, who was asleep in a sleeping compartment, died in the accident. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
The overturned truck tied up traffic on Interstate 26 for several hours as it took some time for the truck to be towed from the scene. More information about this fatal crash will be added if and when it becomes available.
