Orangeburg Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Pickup Truck
October 15, 2010 - An elderly man died early Thursday morning after he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing the street in Orangeburg. According to a report at WSCC TV Charleston, the victim was crossing Highway 301 when he was hit. Police say the accident happened in the early morning hours of Thursday morning when it was still dark.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating this fatal pedestrian accident. The victim, who has been identified as a 63-year-old man, was transported by paramedics to Regional Medical Center, where he died shortly after the crash. The driver of the pickup truck, a Ford Ranger, has not been identified. Police say he was uninjured in the accident. There's no word yet on whether or not charges will be filed against the driver.
This death comes on the heels of another pedestrian fatality in Orangeburg. Earlier this week, a woman died after she was hit by a semi-truck while walking across Chestnut Street. Sadly, that pedestrian also died from her injuries at Regional Medical Center. The driver in this accident has also not been charged.
