Pedestrian Hit and Killed Near Northwoods Mall
November 18, 2010 - A pedestrian was killed on Tuesday when he was hit by a car while crossing the street near Northwoods Mall in Charleston. According to a report at Live 5 News, the fatal accident occurred around 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Police say the victim was crossing Rivers Avenue near the mall when he was hit by a Jeep Cherokee. The victim has been identified as a 56-year-old man from Charleston. He was unconscious and lying in the middle of Rivers Avenue when first responders arrived on the scene. Sadly, his injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, who suffered no injuries in the crash, has not been identified.
The Charleston Police Department is still investigating this fatal pedestrian accident, and no charges have been filed against the driver as of this time. It is not currently known if the victim was in a crosswalk when the accident occurred. Poor lighting conditions may also have been a contributing factor, as it had just gotten dark when the victim happened to be crossing the street.
