South Carolina Officials Prepare for Winter Weather Road Emergencies
Temperatures in South Carolina remain nearly freezing, which means icy roads, snow and frost are nearly inevitable. To prepare for the possible emergencies on South Carolina roads caused by winter weather, teh SC Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) and Department of Transportation (SCDOT), are working together to ensure driver's safety during this time of potentially dangerous driving conditions.As part of the effort, the SCDPS is conducting a review of the state's winter weather plan. This includes teaming with other state agences to ensure communication and resources and in place for dispatch, if an emergency arises on South Carolina roadways. SCDOT emergency crews will be on the winter weather alert, and crews in each county will monitor conditions. Part of the preparation and safety precaution plan includes sanding and salting interstates and overpasses before any precipitation starts to fall.
With snow in the forecast for parts of South Carolina this week, safety on the roadway cannot be overemphasized.
