Summerville School Guard Charged with DUI
January 19, 2011 - A security guard for a local high school was arrested for drunk driving after a single-vehicle car accident in Summerville. According to a report at ABC News 4 Charleston, the driver is employed as a security guard for Summerville High School.
Police say the driver was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday night after he crashed his pickup truck. The man was driving on Mentor Street when he lost control of the truck and crashed down an embankment into a ditch. Police responding to the scene noticed that the victim appeared to be under the influence and they noticed open containers of alcohol in his truck. He was arrested for drunk driving. It was not immediately clear if the officers gave the man a breathalyzer test; if so, his blood-alcohol content was not released.
Officials at Summerville High School say the guard has been suspended until the criminal case is resolved. There were no other passengers in the car, and no other injuries were reported. The driver himself escaped serious injury. No other vehicles were involved in this crash.
