Two Toddlers Hurt in Car Accidents

Two toddlers were struck by cars on Wedsnesday.

The first involved a 17-month old child who was injured when a car crashed into a Rite Aid on Bacon’s Bridge Road in Summerville. The car was driven by a 79-year old female who told police that she mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the breaks. The child was in a shopping cart when hit and was treated at a local hospital. The accident happened around noon.

Later that afternoon, a second child was struck by an automobile in Downtown Charleston. The 2-year old ran in front of a vehicle at the intersection of Johnson and America Street in Downtown Charleston. The toddler was struck at about 3:20pm and was taken to MUSC for treatment. His condition is unknown, but police believed that he would be fine. Police do not plan to file charges against the driver.
