Woman Killed in Head-On Crash in Mt. Pleasant
October 28, 2010 - A woman from Horry County was killed on Wednesday when the car she was riding in crashed head-on into a semi-truck. According to a report at WCSC TV Charleston, the head-on collision occurred shortly before 2 a.m. in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police say the victim was a passenger in a Ford Taurus that was traveling on U.S. 17 when the car swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed into a semi-truck heading in the opposite direction. The victim has been identified as a 41-year-old woman from Horry County; she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man from Myrtle Beach, had a run-in with a police officer shortly before the fatal crash. Police say the man had been parked for over an hour at the Kangaroo gas station on U.S. 17 when a deputy approached to investigate. The deputy says the female passenger was crying and the driver sped off.
The driver suffered personal injuries and is receiving treatment at Medical University. Police say they found several empty beer cans in the crashed vehicle, leading them to believe that this accident is alcohol-related.
