What Does A Personal Injury Lawyer Do and How Will A Lawyer Help My Case?

Here is a list of the tasks that are often performed in a personal injury case, before a lawsuit is filed. Every case is unique, and not all of these tasks will be required or even relevant to every case. The duties include:
  1. Client Initial Interview
  2. Educate client about personal injury claims
  3.  Gather evidence, police accident reports, medical records and bills.
  4.  Analyze the client’s insurance coverage and make suggestions as to what coverage and make suggestions as to what additional coverage should be purchased for future protection.
  5.  Begin initial investigation, to include: interviewing known witnesses, collecting photographs and physical evidence.
  6. Analyze the legal issues including liability issues and potential legal defense
  7. Review medical records or obtain written reports from the medical providers to understand the client’s condition fully; speak with client’s physicians to understand fully the client’s condition and injury
  8. Analyze the client’s health insurance policy or welfare benefit plan to ascertain whether any money must be repaid.
  9. Analyze the validity of any liens on the case. Doctors, insurance companies, welfare benefit plans and employers may assert that they are entitled to all or part of the client’s recovery.
  10. Contact the insurance company to put them on notice of the claim, and maintain contact with the adjustor about the case so that appropriate reserves are set to settle the case.
  11.  Analyze the at fault party’s insurance coverage to ascertain adequate coverage and notify insurance company of any potential policy limits claim.
