Early Morning Accident Claims the Lives of 2 Lowcountry Men

Early Friday morning David Rudd of Givhans and Ralph Daniels of Summerville were killed after being involved in a head on collision. The accident happened in Berkeley County on State Road Hwy 176, about 2 miles past Cooper Store Road near the Wasamasaw Bridge. Ralph Daniels died at the scene and David Rudd was airlifted to MUSC where he was later pronounced dead. Both of the victims died from body trauma.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2009 chevy pickup truck was traveling east on hwy 176 when the second vehicle; a 2000 Chevy pickup truck crossed the center line striking the other vehicle head on. Reports state that neither victim was wearing a safety belt.

The roadway was closed for several hours this morning as crews worked to get the wreckage from the roadway. The accident is currently under investigation with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
