Couple Dies in Possible Toyota Recalled Car

Leroy Shingler, Jr., 61, and his wife, Marthe "Ruby" Shingler, 57, of Santee died last Thursday morning after their car lost control and hit a tree. The accident occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Highway 15 in Holly Hill, SC.
South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the accident. Police say the car hit a curb on the right-side of the road, crossed over the center line, and, ultimately, collided with a tree. The weather on Thursday morning was rainy and wet. Police say the road was wet and visibility was poor at the time of the accident.
The two were in a 2009 Toyota Camry, a model that was included in the recent floor mat and accelerator recalls. There are rumors that Toyota will be investigating the accident as well. Until then, investigators have been told not to touch the car without gloves and to be extremely careful so that no possible evidence is altered.
No matter what caused the accident, the deaths have caused great tragedy for the Shingler’s family and friends.
