DUI Crash Near Walterboro Kills 2 People

March 3, 2011 - A Delaware man is facing serious charges after he killed two people in an alcohol-related car accident. According to a report at Live 5 News, the crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday evening near Walterboro.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say the man who caused this crash, a 34-year-old man from Delaware, was driving northbound on Interstate 95 when he swerved into the right-hand lane and crashed into another vehicle, forcing it off the road. That vehicle, an SUV, then crashed into a tree near the side of the interstate.

There were 2 occupants in the SUV, and both victims died shortly after the accident. They have been identified as a 70-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man. Both victims were from Columbia, South Carolina.

An investigation concluded that the 34-year-old driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, although his exact blood-alcohol content has not been released. Troopers have not said if he suffered personal injuries in the crash, but it appears that he was uninjured. He is now facing 2 charges of felony drunk driving that resulted in a death.
