At around 7:30am, 44-year-old Scott Arrington, of Goose Creek, was riding his motorcycle on Remount Road in North Charleston when the accident happened. An 18-wheeler failed to yield to Arrington while pulling out of a parking lot and as a result, collided with Arrington's motorcycle.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 47-year-old Louis Hunter Jr., was arrested and charged with reckless homicide.

A Note From Shelly Leeke Law Firm:

Unfortunately, we have seen accidents like this in the news lately where vehicles fail to yield to the right of way of motorcyclists. Larger vehicles, such as 18-wheelers, should be especially cautious on the roadways because accidents involving these vehicles can be much more devastating. In South Carolina, if a person fails to yield to the right of way causing the death of another person, the law states that they are "guilty of the misdemeanor offense of vehicular homicide." In this case, Hunter was charged with reckless homicide for pulling out in front of Arrington. We hope that this sets an example for truck drivers and motorists to be aware of motorcyclists on the road and prevents drivers from being killed due to the reckless actions of others. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Scott Arrington.
