Hit and Run Crash Near Elgin Injures One

March 9, 2011 - The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an Elgin hit and run accident that caused a vehicle to roll over into a ditch on Tuesday morning. According to a report at Live 5 News, the car accident injured one man, and troopers have yet to locate the driver that caused this crash.

Investigators say the victim was driving on Highway 1 near Elgin when he was run off the road by a Ford Crown Victoria shortly after 8 a.m. The victim's car swerved into a ditch and rolled over several times before coming to a rest on the passenger's side. The victim, a man from Lugoff, suffered minor personal injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene of the accident. Fortunately, the victim told reporters that he rarely wears a seatbelt, but for some reason, he decided to wear his seatbelt on Tuesday morning.

Authorities later discovered the Ford Crown Victoria abandoned in a wooded area less than 5 miles from the scene of the hit and run accident. It was reported stolen. However, the driver was nowhere to be found and investigators have yet to identify him or her. The investigation continues.
