Man Killed in Fiery Accident with Tractor Trailer in Greer

Greer, S.C. - A man died from injuries sustained in an accident with a tractor trailer on the morning of Wednesday, February 1st.
The 20-year-old who was killed in the wreck has been identified as Joseph McCallum Nichols. Nichols was driving a Lexus SUV at the intersection of Hammett Bridge and South Buncombe Roads when his vehicle collided with a tractor trailer. The wreck happened shortly after 3 a.m. and a fire started after the crash.
Nichols was wearing a seat belt, but he died instantly from the collision. The tractor-trailer driver was taken to the hospital and has since been released.
It is unknown at this time what was the cause of the incident, but investigators are looking into whether one of the drivers ran the red light.
