Man Killed In I-95 Accident, Driver Fled The Scene

A Charleston man fell asleep at the wheel Sunday morning, resulting in an accident and the death of a passenger in his SUV. After fleeing the scene after the accident, he is facing charges.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports that 20-year-old Ludvin Andrez-Gonzalez was driving on Interstate 95 in Jasper County, when he fell asleep at the wheel. It was reported that the Expedition he was driving flipped over with his nine passengers in it after he drifted off the side of the road and overcorrected the SUV.

Ernesto Santiz-Lopez, one of the passengers in the vehicle, was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Thanks to tracking dogs, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office found and arrested Andrez-Gonzalez only a few hours after the crash.

Andrez-Gonzalez will be facing multiple charges, which include leaving the scene involving a death, driving without a SC driver's license, and driving too fast for conditions.

We extend our condolensces to the family of Ernesto Santiz-Lopez and those injured in the I-95 accident.
