Two Injured in Wrong Way Accident on US 123 in Pickens County

Pickens County, S.C. - A driver caused an accident in Pickens County when she crashed into an 18-wheeler and another vehicle while driving the wrong way on U.S. 123 on Monday, May 7th.
At around 3:30pm, Judith Parham, 61, of Six Mile, was traveling in her Mercedes-Benz in the wrong direction on U.S. 123 near Liberty when she collided with a Peterbilt truck and then a Kia.
Parham and the driver of the Kia, 58-year-old Runette Brown, were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extracted by EMS. They were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Parham was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Lemuel Evatt, the 58-year-old driver of the truck, did not sustain any injuries in the accident.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.

Pedestrian Killed by DUI Driver at Five Points in Columbia

Columbia, S.C. - A pedestrian was hit and killed in the Five Points area of Columbia on Saturday, May 5th.
Justin Timmerman, 24, of Chapin, was attempting to cross Harden Street when he was struck by an SUV. Timmerman died at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the SUV, 24-year-old William Carlen, was driving under the influence when the accident occurred and was consequently charged with felony DUI, driving with a suspended license, and failure to surrender his suspended driver’s license. He is currently being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center under a $250,000 bond.
The Columbia Police Department is investigating the incident.

Moped Driver Killed in Berkeley County Accident

Berkeley County, S.C. - A moped driver was killed in an accident on Tuesday, May 1st in Berkeley County.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol stated that the accident happened before 10:15 p.m. on Old US 52 near Oakley Road.

John Brown, 61, was driving his moped north on Old Highway 52 when he was hit from behind by another vehicle.
Brown was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and died as a result of blunt force body trauma.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.

Iva Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Tractor

Iva, S.C. - A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a tractor in Anderson County near Iva on Thursday, April 26th.

At around 6:45pm, Timothy Sean Black, 44, of Iva, was traveling on his motorcycle on SC-413 at Sam Byrum Road when the accident occurred. Black hit the side of a tractor that was making a right-hand turn into a driveway, causing the tractor to flip over.
Black was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of head trauma. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The driver of the tractor was injured in the accident and his current condition is unknown.

Charleston Police Cruiser Crushed by 18-Wheeler, 2 Injured

Charleston, S.C. - An accident at the on-ramp of the Ravenel Bridge on the morning of Monday, April 30th, left two police officers injured. 
The Charleston police officers had stopped to help a disabled motorist when an 18-wheeler hit their vehicle from behind. Their cruiser was crushed on impact, causing the officers to have to be pulled from their vehicle and taken to a local hospital.
It has been reported that the officers are being treated for their injuries and are going to be okay.

Police Officer Critically Injured in Barnwell Accident

Barnwell, S.C. - An accident on South Carolina Highway 3 on the morning of Saturday, April 21st left a police officer critically injured.
The accident occurred while the officer was patrolling SC Hwy 3 at around 1:30am. The officer saw that a young person was walking down the wrong side of the highway so he pulled over to speak to them. 
At this time, 84-year-old Sarah Wallace was traveling southbound and crashed into the officer's vehicle. This caused the police car to crash into both the officer and the juvenile.
Emergency responders came to the scene and took the juvenile by ambulance and airlifted the officer to the hospital. Wallace and her three passengers sustained minor injuries in the crash and were transported to Barnwell Hospital.
Their current conditions are unknown, but it was reported that the officer was “critically injured.”

Fatal Wagener Accident May Have Been Caused by Broken Accelerator

Wagener, SC - An accident in Wagener on Thursday, April 19th that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured may have been caused by a malfunctioning accelerator.
At around midnight, an F150 pick-up truck failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of New Holland Road and Gunter Pond Road, causing it to crash into a Honda Civic.
Investigators reported that the pick-up truck driver explained that something was wrong with the accelerator.
The driver of the Honda Civic, 20-year-old Chase Ray, did not survive the accident. Ray's passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was seriously injured in the crash and taken to Palmetto Health Richland to be treated for her injuries.
The pick-up truck driver and his passenger also sustained injuries in the collision.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident.

One Man Killed, One Teen Injured in Anderson Collision

Anderson, S.C. - One man was killed and a teenager was injured in a head-on collision near Anderson on Thursday, April 12th, 2012.
At around 5:00pm, William "Billy" Vaughn, of Iva, was traveling south on U.S. 29 near Union Grove Methodist Church in a Kia Optima when he crossed the center line and hit a Ford Excursion that was heading north. 
Vaughn was trapped inside his vehicle and was eventually freed just before 6:00pm. He soon after died as a result of head and chest injuries.
Robert Tyler Ueckert, the 17-year-old driver of the Excursion, was transported to AnMed Health Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident.
It is unknown at this time what caused the accident; however, it was reported that Vaughn was on his way home from work and may have fallen asleep while driving.

One Killed & One Injured in Bonneau Accident

Bonneau, S.C. - A one-vehicle accident in Bonneau on Wednesday, April 4th, left one man dead and his passenger injured.
At around 3:00am, James Seay, 48, was driving a pickup truck on Harristown Road when he left the right side of the road
and crashed into trees along the roadway.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, Seay was pronounced dead as a result of head trauma. His passenger was ejected from the vehicle and had to be taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. Neither Seay, nor his passenger, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
The condition of the passenger is currently unknown.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.

Mother of Two Killed in Anderson Accident

Anderson, S.C. - A head-on accident near Anderson, on Saturday, April 7th, 2012, left a mother of two young children dead.
At around 4:30pm, Eileen Petters, 31, was traveling in her 2009 Honda on Crestview Road with her children when the accident occurred. Petters' Honda hit a Chevy Astro van head-on.
Petters did not have her seatbelt on when the accident happened. Her 6-month-old son, Marley, and 2-year-old daughter, Autumn, were properly restrained in the backseat.
The children did not sustain any serious injuries in the accident. The driver of the van, Perry Sutherland, was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center to be treated for injuries. Sutherland has since been released.
Petters had be cut from the vehicle and was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she died on Sunday as a result of a liver laceration.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident.
