North Charleston Officer Injured in Rollover Accident

March 2, 2011 - An officer with the North Charleston Police Department was injured on Tuesday when she was involved in a rollover accident. According to a report at WCBD TV (News 2 Charleston), the rollover accident occurred during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating this car accident, but initial reports indicate that the female officer was by herself in her squad car when the crash took place shortly after midnight. The officer was driving on Michaux Parkway in North Charleston when she lost control of the squad car near Dorchester Road. The car rolled over several times before crashing into a utility pole and a tree. Pictures from the scene show that the officer's squad car was severely damaged.

The officer, who has not been identified, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been released, but authorities believe that she will survive her injuries. Weather may have played a role in the rollover accident, as it was raining at the time, but the Highway Patrol has not completed their accident investigation. No other injuries were reported.
