Personal Injury Lawsuit Against Target Settles for $7 Million

Woman settles for $7 million in Target injury lawsuit

An 80-year-old woman, Claire Putman, settled for $7million, after suffering serious brain injuries walking through an entrance door at Target. On June 21, 2007, Ms. Puman was knocked to the floor by a defective automatic door at Target. She was knocked to the ground and suffered a blow to the head as the door closed. The incident resulted in Ms. Putman's having to move in to a nursing home as a result of the injuries she suffered.
The lawsuit alleged that Target didn't maintain the proper safety guidelines provided by the door manufacturer, Besam USA, who was also a named defendant in the suit. The door also had no safety mechanism to alert store employees when the door was malfunctioning.
