Luckily, none of the eight South Caldwell High School special needs students who were riding the bus were injured in the accident. They were taken to school following the incident and being checked by paramedics. However, the bus driver and another adult riding the bus were injured and taken to a local hospital.
The driver was trapped in his vehicle due to the front of the minivan being caved in by the impact. The impact caved in the front of the minivan and trapped the driver. Once he was freed from the vehicle, he was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. There was also a passenger in the minivan who was taken to a local hospital.
Investigators are unsure at the moment as to the cause of the accident and the incident is still under investigation. An empty bottle whiskey was found on the van's front seat but it is unknown if excessive speed or alcohol were factors in the accident.
