SC Roads Third Deadliest in The US for Pedestrians

A recent study from the Surface Transportation Policy Partnership and Transportation for America says South Carolina ranks third in the nation as deadliest roadways for pedestrians. More than 4,500 Americans were killed crossing the street last year, with South Carolina showing an estimated 200 pedestrian deaths from 2007-2008.
The state's newest traffic fatality statistics reveal only 77 pedestrians have died on South Carolina roadways in 2009, with Sumter topping the list and Myrtle Beach/Conway coming in second as most dangerous city for pedestrians.
Study officials say the pedestrian danger index computes the rate of pedestrian deaths relative to the amount of walking residents do on average. For more information on the study, visit SCTPTA.
