Teen Killed in Pelzer Car Accident

Anderson County, S.C. - A 14-year-old girl was killed in an accident on the night of Friday, November 4th, in Pelzer when the car she was riding in collided with a tanker truck. 
Jaela Kelley of Williamston was riding in a Honda with two others around 9:30 p.m. when the accident occurred at U.S. 29 and Ballard Road. None of the passengers in the vehicle were wearing seat belts when they hit the tanker truck.
Kelley was thrown from the car when the accident happened. She was taken by helicopter to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she later died of multiple trauma. Haley Brett Ragsdale and Cody Bradley Hendrey, the other passengers in the Honda, were injured in the accident and taken to local hospitals.
Witnesses reported that the Honda pulled out in front of the tanker on U.S. 29 after stopping at a stop sign on Ballard Road. The tanker hit the Honda, causing the car to spin several times and then slide down an embankment.
The gas tanker, driven by Christopher Jennings of Pauline, flipped over, causing parts of U.S. 29 to shut down. Jennings was not injured in the accident.
The state patrol is currently investigating the accident and it has not yet been determined who was the driver of the Honda.
