Third Motorcyclist Dies In The Lowcountry

A 43 year old US Air Force Veteran of Goose Creek dies on Friday morning of injuries caused by a collision that he was involved in on February 19th. According to the Dorchester County Coroner, William Robert Hugo Gillitzer of Lighthouse Drive died at approximately 12:10 am at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital. The cause of death was multi-organ failure and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). 

  According to the report by the South Carolina Highway Patrol Gillitzer was driving along SC Highway 61 in Ridgeville when another car pulled out in front of him at the Temple Road Intersection to make a left hand turn. As a result, Gillitzer struck the vehicle and was thrown from his bike. Martha Walker Haynes of Ridgeville is being charged with failure to yield the right of way. 

This accident marks the third motorcycle crash that has ended in death; all of which were caused by the adverse vehicle. All of the adverse drivers in these accidents were only charged with failure to yield the right of way. Samuel Searles, 68 of North Charleston died on Thursday when his motorcycle collided with a car earlier that week on Dorchester Rd. Devon Autray Jenkins, also of North Charleston died at the scene of a three car wreck on Wednesday on Ashley Phosphate Rd.
