Tragic Death of Cane Bay High School Student in Bicycle Accident

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, seventeen year old Ronny Gallardo, of Summerville was riding his bicycle along SC Hwy 176 when he collided with a car being driven by Cassie Gelzer, also of Summerville.
The bicycle accident occurred along SC Hwy 176 near Alexander Circle shortly before 7pm on Sunday, March 6,2011. Gallardo was airlifted to MUSC and pronounced dead at 8:02 pm. The driver of the 1994 Mazda sedan was identified as Cassie Gelzer. Gelzer left the scene of the accident but returned approximately 1 hour after the accident.
The accident is currently under investigation with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. No charges have been filed at this time.
