Victim Identified in Williamsburg County Truck Accident

February 23, 2011 - Deputies have identified the victim of a truck accident that was killed last Monday. According to a report at Live 5 News, the Williamsburg County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as a 52-year-old man. An autopsy determined that his death was caused by blunt force trauma.

The fatal truck accident occurred near Kingstree. Deputies say the victim was riding in a vehicle on Highway 52 when the driver lost control of the car and slammed into a logging truck that was parked on the side of the road. Investigators say the logging truck was not occupied at the time of the Williamsburg County crash.

The victim was in the passenger seat and suffered severe injuries; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who has not yet been identified, suffered serious personal injuries and was airlifted to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was admitted in critical condition, but his current condition is unknown at this time.

This fatal truck accident remains under investigation. Authorities have not said why the driver lost control of the vehicle or why the logging truck was parked on the side of the road.
