Woman Charged with DUI After Greenville Bus Accident

Greenville, S.C. - A 42-year-old woman, of Simpsonville, was charged with driving under the influence after she collided with a Woodmont Middle School bus, causing several students to be taken to the hospital.
The accident occurred on Wednesday, February 15th at around 8:30am on West Georgia Road near Greenville Tech's Brashier 
Campus.
The school bus was traveling west, when a pickup truck that was traveling east crossed the middle line and hit the school bus head-on. After the crash, the pickup truck caught on fire and and the students on the school bus escaped through a back window.
There were 51 Woodmont Middle School students on board, eight of which were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries related to the accident.
The woman that was driving the truck, 42-year-old Michelle Lea Kaufman, had to be cut out of her vehicle and then was airlifted to the hospital. She experienced serious injuries in the accident, has been listed in critical but stable condition, and her current condition is unknown.
The driver of the school bus and the students have been treated and released from the hospital.
Kaufman has been charged with driving under the influence.
