Wrong Way Goose Creek Driver Charged with DUIPosted on Mar 08, 2012
Darin Antony Moan, 29, of Summerville, was traveling on the wrong side of St. James Avenue at around 12:45am in a white truck, when he struck a Honda van head-on.
When officers arrived, Moan told them that he did not know what happened and just remembered the aftermath of the accident. Officers smelled alcohol on him as they spoke with him and he admitted to drinking a few beers.
Another driver told officers that he was almost hit by Moan prior to the accident and changed lanes in order to avoid a collision. He said that Moan only had one headlight and was traveling the wrong way on the eastbound lane of St. James Avenue. The man said that he looked back after passing Moan and saw that an accident had occurred.
The 45-year-old victim who was driving the van that Moan collided into had a severe injury to his leg and was taken to the hospital.
Moan did not want to receive medical attention and was given field sobriety tests that determined that he was drunk. He was then arrested and charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.
