Since August 2025, a brightly wrapped van bearing the words “Driven to Rescue” has become one of Charleston Animal Society‘s most vital tools: ferrying animals in need across the Lowcountry and beyond. Generously donated by Shelly Leeke Law Firm (SLLF), the vehicle has now facilitated the transport of more than 3,000 animals, a milestone that reflects the extraordinary impact of community partnership in animal welfare.
A Lifeline Between Campuses
The van has become indispensable for day-to-day operations at Charleston Animal Society, making regular runs between the organization’s Berkeley Campus and its Main Campus. These trips transport animals in need of spay and neuter procedures, as well as those who are ill or injured and require the specialized care of veterinarians at the Main Campus. What was once a logistical challenge is now a seamless, reliable operation — thanks to this critical donation.
Reaching Animals Beyond South Carolina
The van’s impact has extended far beyond Charleston. Since August 2025, Charleston Animal Society has completed two transport trips to the MSPCA (Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) outside Boston, carrying a combined total of 60 cats and kittens to the Northeast, where adoption demand is high and these animals have found loving homes. These long-distance transports are a powerful example of how regional shelters working together, and supported by community sponsors, can save more lives.
