February 16, 2011 – A 26-year-old man is facing serious charges after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident while driving under the influence. Once he was caught, the driver assaulted an officer from the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek. According to a report at Live 5 News, the incident happened on Friday evening.
Police say the hit and run driver crashed into another vehicle on Harbour Lake Drive and then fled the scene. He then went to the Redbank Club in Goose Creek, where witnesses called police to report the driver’s erratic and drunken behavior. When police arrived, two military officers from the nearby Naval Weapons Station were attempting to subdue the increasingly belligerent suspect. The driver, a 26-year-old man, attempted to punch one of the officers and was spitting and biting while the officers tried to apprehend him. He also threatened to kill the officers.
Police say his vehicle was damaged in the hit and run accident, although few details were immediately available from that crash. It was not known if there were any injuries in that incident.
