GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – More than six people were injured in an accident occuring the evening of Saturday, February 23 at the intersection of Redbank Road and Henry Brown Boulevard.
Hanahan police clocked a Nissan Altima speeding at 105-mph in a 55-mph speed zone; so the officer pursued in an attempt to pull the car over. To avoid law enforcement, the driver of the Altima ran a red light – driving into a Honda Odyssey taxi cab van.
The cab had six passengers aboard; one of which was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Dennis Lee Smalls was identified as the driver of the Altima. Police said he appeared “grossly intoxicated.”
Eight people were transported to nearby hospitals. The Altima driver, Dennis Lee Smalls died of his injuries Sunday, March 3.
