Drugmaker slapped with jury award of $2.5 million for birth defects to a newborn child of mother taking Paxil. The award is more than twice what the Plaintiff’s originally sought. The Pennsylvania jurors found that that the Paxil drugmaker knew, but negligently failed to warn of the dangerous side effects of the drug. This is the most recent case surrounding the controversial anti-depressant drug, Paxil, which has also been known to cause homicidal and suicidal behavior. The company, GlaxoSmithKline, previously settled several suicide claims, for undisclosed amounts. In 2006 a Wyoming jury awarded $6.4 million to the family of a man who shot his family then turned the gun on himself after taking Paxil.
