Landrum, S.C. – A motorcyclist was killed in an accident while riding on Highway 11 in northern Greenville County on Thursday, March 15th, 2012.
It was reported that at around 11:00am, two motorcyclists were traveling on Highway 11 when they came across a SCDOT contracted tractor/mower that was on the right side of the highway. The motorcyclists were able to pass the tractor, but then came across another tractor near Lindsey Road.
The motorcyclists attempted to go around the tractor, but the tractor turned across the road in front of them in a 90 degree angle.
Kelly Harris, 45, of Laurens, was driving ahead of the other motorcyclist and did not have enough time to react, causing Harris to strike the side of the tractor. The second motorcyclist had enough time to stop and did not get into an accident.
Harris was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and was killed instantly.
Dixie Lawn Service of Kings Mountain, NC, is the owner of the tractors that were along Highway 11.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and it is unknown whether any charges will be filed.
