Anderson, S.C. – One man was killed and a teenager was injured in a head-on collision near Anderson on Thursday, April 12th, 2012.
At around 5:00pm, William “Billy” Vaughn, of Iva, was traveling south on U.S. 29 near Union Grove Methodist Church in a Kia Optima when he crossed the center line and hit a Ford Excursion that was heading north.
Vaughn was trapped inside his vehicle and was eventually freed just before 6:00pm. He soon after died as a result of head and chest injuries.
Robert Tyler Ueckert, the 17-year-old driver of the Excursion, was transported to AnMed Health Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident.
It is unknown at this time what caused the accident; however, it was reported that Vaughn was on his way home from work and may have fallen asleep while driving.
