Folly Beach, S.C. – An accident involving an SUV and a Charleston County Sherriff’s Office cruiser caused Folly Road to be shut down on the morning of Tuesday, April 3rd.
At around 7:00am, the deputy was on his way to a call when the accident happened on Folly Road near Oak Point Road. The cause of the wreck has not yet been determined. The deputy’s cruiser experienced damage to the front and back. The vehicle skidded sideways, crossed a median, and then hit a guardrail on the other side of the road. The cruiser’s gas tank was ruptured and the vehicle caught fire.
The cruiser appeared to have lost control, causing it to crash into an SUV on the opposite side of the road. The deputy and the SUV driver were taken to MUSC to be treated for injuries that they sustained in the crash.
Folly Road was partially opened around 8:30am and was completely reopened before noon.
