A wreckless and distracted driver lost control of her pickup truck at the Tampa International Airport and crashed in to the over $50,000 saltwater fish tank exhibit at the American Airlines baggage claim Monday night. The woman, Yamile Campuano-Martine, was driving with an unrestrained 6 year old boy in her lap when the accident occurred. She jumped a curb and barreled in to the 1,500 gallon tank. While the woman and child were unharmed, officials say more than likely all of the 30-40 exotic fish will be casualties of this woman’s bad judgment.
- According to the National Highway traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), in 2008, there were nearly 815,000 injuries and nearly 6,000 deaths as a result of distracted driving.
- Even more alarming, over 250,000 children are injured every year in auto accidents,
- In over half of the cases where a child dies in a car accident, failure to be secured by a seat belt or child safety seat is a contributing factor.
