MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Ronnie Gallardo was riding his bicycle home when he was struck by a car on Highway 176. The driver of the car, Cassie Gelzer proceeded to take off after hitting the teenager.
Highway patrol has been investigating Gelzer, reconstructing the crash, etc. to complete a thorough investigation.
Gelzer returned to the scene soon after the incident with her father. It was dark outside and she claims she thought she hit a deer. It wasn’t until after examining her car at home that she realized it wasn’t a deer she came in contact with.
Gezler was arrested and as part of a plea bargain, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident resulting in minor injuries (a lesser charge).
Her license has been suspended and she was sentenced to one year of incarceration suspended on two years probation, meaning Gelzer will be sentenced to serve one year in prison if she does not fullfill her probation.
