October 11, 2010 – A man who was hit by a car while riding a bicycle had drugs in his possession, police say. According to a report at ABC 4 News Charleston, police recovered a backpack that belonged to the victim filled with prescription pills and marijuana near the accident scene.
Although police are still investigating this car-on-pedestrian accident, initial reports indicate that the cyclist was traveling through the intersection of Spring Street and US-17 when he was hit by a car. The pedestrian accident occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
The cyclist, who has been identified as a 23-year-old man named Christopher Pawloski, suffered personal injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the car has not been identified and was not injured in the accident.
Police say Pawloski was likely to blame for the accident, as the car had the green light to go through the intersection. Pawloski apparently tried to get a witness to throw his backpack away before anyone arrived to the accident scene. The backpack, which contained marijuana and pills, also contained a credit card in Pawloski’s name. Charges may be forthcoming.
