Girl Dies in ATV Accident in Colleton County

Hendersonville, S.C. - A 12-year-old girl was killed in an accident while riding an ATV at a birthday party.
The girl, Calista Smith of Walterboro, was riding an ATV when it rolled over on top of her, causing multiple injuries that led to her death.
Emergency responders from Colleton County arrived at the house where the party was taking place near Hendersonville at around 1:44 p.m. Smith was taken to Medical University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
It was reported that a few of the children who were at the birthday party were driving ATVs behind the house, in the woods. The accident occurred when the driver was trying to turn the Polaris Gator 500 on a hill. This caused the vehicle to turn over and fatally injure Smith and injure the leg of a 14-year-old girl from Marietta, G.A. The other child was taken by ambulance to Colleton Medical Center and has been listed as being in stable condition.
