December 21, 2010 – An Andrews resident was killed on Monday morning when his SUV was hit by a pickup truck. According to ABC 4 News, the accident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. in Georgetown.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this fatal accident. The victim was pulling a trailer with his Chevy Tahoe SUV and attempting to back the trailer into a driveway. In trying to turn the trailer, the driver drove the SUV back into the roadway, where it was broadsided by a Ford pickup truck near the intersection of Johnson and Brick Chimney Roads.
The victim has been identified by the Georgetown Coroner as a 52-year-old man from Andrews. It is not known if he was pronounced dead at the scene or if he was taken to a local hospital. The man’s wife was also in the SUV at the time of the crash and suffered personal injuries, as did the driver of the pickup truck. Both of the injured victims are expected to survive, but the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
Deputies say the crash was an accident and no charges are expected to be filed.
