January 28, 2011 – The bus driver who was seriously injured in a Mount Pleasant truck accident was finally released from the hospital after months of rehabilitation. According to a report at ABC News 4 Charleston, the driver was released last Thursday.
The victim was injured back in November, when the Greyhound bus he was driving crashed into the back of a logging truck on Interstate 95. Pictures from the scene show that the front of the bus was crushed and several logs came through the front windshield. The driver was impaled by a log and trapped in the wreckage for several hours while first responders struggled to free him.
The victim, who was identified as a 60-year-old man, was transported to MUSC in critical condition. He was in the hospital for several months receiving treatment for unspecified injuries. No other people were injured in the Mount Pleasant truck accident.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol has not yet completed their investigation into this crash, but they expect to release an initial report in the coming weeks. It is not immediately clear if weather or speed were a factor in this serious truck accident. Â
